Renew-Crete Crack Repair Products

Crack repair is an essential step in the surface preparation process. If cracks are not repaired properly, the crack will transfer into the newly overlayed surface. If cracks are wider than 1/8", and you can stick a screwdriver down to the dirt, then the section of concrete will have to be removed and re-poured. If new concrete is poured, a decorative concrete overlay can not be applied until it is fully cured. Concrete typically takes 28 days to reach a full cure.

The first step in the crack repair process is to widen and chase the crack with diamond blades . Use a v-groove diamond blade and chase the crack so that it is approximately 1/2" deep. Then chase the crack with a 1/8" diamond blade to remove any loose debris that remains in the bottom of the crack. After the crack has been chased, etch and clean the crack with a 2 to 1 muriatic acid solution. Thoroughly neutralize the acid with backing soda and clean water and allow the crack to dry completely.

The second step is to mix and apply the epoxy. The epoxy comes in a two gallon kit. You receive 1 gallon of part A and 1 gallon of part B. Measure equal portions of A and B and mix thoroughly for a minimum of 2 minutes. Mix only what you can use within about 10 minutes. After 10 minutes the epoxy will start to get hard and you will not be able to use the remainder. Using a paint brush, paint the material into the cracks. After that, mix in an equal part of clean, dry sand to the mixture and mix thoroughly for 1 minute. Pour or trowel this mixture into the crack, filling it up completely.

The third step is to apply crack mesh to the surface while the epoxy is still wet. A 100 foot roll of 4" crack mesh is included in the crack repair kit. Apply the crack mesh into the epoxy and work it into the surface, making sure the mesh is completely covered with epoxy. Allow the epoxy to tack up and sprinkle clean, dry sand on the surface so that is has a rough finish. Allow epoxy to cure overnight.

The final step is to use Renew-Crete Bond Coat to skim over and featheredge the repaired area. Allow the Bond Coat to dry completely before you apply the decorative concrete finish.
